Apartment Realty Advisors of Boca Raton has named Brandon J. Rex to head its new private clients group. Rex, a vice president of ARA, was a senior investment associate with Marcus & Millichap and brings nine years of experience to the post. The new division will focus on serving high-end private clients investing in the multi-housing industry. ARA closed $5.2 billion in transactions between 2005-2007. In the past year, the company has added offices in Tampa and Orlando.

Miami-based Lennar Corp. has appointed Sherrill W. Hudson, chairman and chief executive officer of TECO Energy Inc., to serve as an independent member of the company's Board of Directors and a member of both the Audit and Compensation Committees.

Houston, Texas-based Weingarten Realty has appointed Michael Lynch as director of new business for the Florida market. He will be based in Orlando.
Dick Wilcher has been named regional director of property management for Columbia, S.C.-based Edens & Avant. He will supervise the firm's Florida portfolio from an office in Miami.

Sim Wilson, a first vice president of CB Richard Ellis in Miami, has received LEED (Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design) accreditation from the U.S. Green Building Council.

Peter Mekras was promoted to managing director of Miami-based Aztec Group Inc.

Walter Reyes was promoted to chief financial officer of The Keyes Co. in Miami.

Barbara Liberatore Black, co-founder of CresaPartners in Miami, received two awards from CREW (Commercial Real Estate Women)-Miami: the CREW-Miami Star Award for her accomplishments in commercial real estate and the Networking Deal of the Year Award for the most significant business deal with another CREW member.

Vivian Gonzalez has joined CresaPartners as vice president, moving from Cushman & Wakefield; Alexander H. Brown was promoted to vice president of the firm.

The Miami chapter of CREW will sponsor a luncheon Feb. 26 on the theme "Why build green? The cold hard truth." A panel of experts will share experiences on a variety of topics – from economic and social benefits to costs and tips on creating new markets for green products and services. Real estate notes

Farmington Hills, Michigan-based Ramco-Gershenson Properties Trust has contributed Mission Bay Plaza, a 273,000-square-foot shopping center at Glades Road and U.S. 441 in Boca Raton, to its joint venture with ING Clarion Partners. Mission Bay Plaza is the 17th shopping center to be acquired by the joint venture, formed in December 2004.

Orlando-based Cuhaci & Peterson Architects LLC was retained by First Lauderdale Investments Inc. of Fort Lauderdale to create a master plan for a one million-square-foot power/lifestyle and retail center in Davie. The project, slated for the southwest corner of I-595 and the Florida Turnpike, will be developed in phases starting this spring.

CB Richard Ellis Inc. in Miami was named the exclusive sales agent for 1746 Meridian, a 61-unit apartment project at 1746 Meridian Ave. in Miami Beach.

Coldwell Banker Residential Real Estate LLC has acquired the assets of Jupiter-based Prestige Realty Group Inc.

Woolbright Development Inc., of Boca Raton, has been named one of "America's Top 10 Redevelopers" by Chain Store Age, a shopping center industry magazine.

Obituaries

Jacobo Cababie, the 39-year-old chief executive officer of Cabi Developers, died Jan. 26 after suffering a heart attack while walking with his wife. Cababie had led the Aventura-based U.S. operation for the parent Grupo Immobiliario Cababies SA. He had been planning to return to Mexico and assume new duties with GICSA, that country's largest development company. His death comes just days after Cabi Developers won approval from Miami planners for reducing the number of condos, adding a hotel and doubling the office space in its Capital at Brickell twin-tower project.
